Being in a cult - what good did it do?
by Garrett inso, here's a bit of a different point of view.
while most of us will agree that our time within the jw cult was rather terrible, however, i'd like to look at another aspect.
did anything good come out of being in a cult and then waking up from it?.

Hope. Hope in God. Hope in a better future. Hope in seeing lost loved ones. Hope strengthens the heart and enlivens us. Hope is the good from religion. -

FayeDunaway,
I believe in God but I do not believe the Governing Body is directed by God in all that they do. I remain in my religion for two reasons. First, I'm not a trinitarian and I believe the basics taught in my religion are scriptural. Second, no religion (or religious leadership) is free from flaw or sinful practices. It's just the way it is.
I follow Christ within the JW religious tradition. I believe many Christians do the same in their own faiths.

Personally, I would prefer prison terms for those who looked the other way in things like this. To make the publishers the fall guy by paying millions for the wrongs of elders or Bethel heavies is unfair, imo. -

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Someone asked if I have read Crisis of Conscience yes I have. It was a hard read to be sure. Woke me up to the fact that my religion was not the garden of Eden I had been taught it was. Like Adam and Eve my eyes were opened. Not a bad thing.

Zeb, "Imperfect men who are christian show humility openly they dont have a massive legal fortress from which they defend paedophiles."
Absolutely! The Governing Body is not a humble group of men. Just watching them on their JW broadcasting videos is ample evidence that they hold themselves in the highest regard something Jesus did not teach.

Zeb, the rape of children in a Christian religion is a damn bloody crime. The Watchtower is blood guilty without doubt! -

What is BELIEF ?
by EdenOne instemming from the 'absentheism' thread, an old question came to my mind.
what exactly is "belief"?.
is it the same to ask: "do you believe in god?

I see the Sun rise. I "believe" the sun has risen. I believe it because I have seen it. Belief must be attached to solid evidence. Now, that "evidence' may be from our own eyes or from the eyes of those we trust. Either way "evidence" must be attested to. -

Just so you all know I still attend meetings. I recognize the problems but I also see that there are few options outside of the Society for a Christian who does not believe in the Trinity.
When I read the Hebrew Scriptures it is obvious that God's people, the Jews, did not always keep the commandments of God. And not all Christians in the NT, and later, kept Christ's word.
Truly, is there a Christian religion that is without flaw? Is there a government that is without flaw? Is there any organization that is without flaw? Are they not all run by imperfect men and women?
